The post mortem of Alexa Stakely whose body was found after she confronted armed men attempting to steal her husband’s car revealed bleeding on the head and body, including cerebral hemorrhage.
Failed in her attempt to snatch her 6 years old son from a stolen Honda CRV, Franklin County Coroner’s office reported her death as a murder on the 11th of July 2024.
People who saw the incident said she rushed to the car, demanding her son be released, and was struck by the SUV as the attackers sped off.
The investigation led to identifying three individuals, two of them were teenagers, and the third one is 19 years old, and the shown case of carjacking and public safety in Columbus, Ohio.
Alexa Stakely, 29, who works as a speech-pathologist, left her job as a waitress in Columbus, Ohio in the southeast region one day out of the month to babysit her six-year-old son, Deluca.
The same was leaving the scene with her son seated at the back of a Honda CRV, the woman got out of the car to pick some items from the babysitter’s house.
This is when the carjacking occurred, and as Stakely tried to prevent a carjacker from stealing her car, as well as her son’s car, she was shot dead.

Finally, the day ended with her getting out of the car just to see someone trying to get out of it in the company’s driveway.
Panicking, Stakely ran after the vehicle and shouted at the driver to come back and get her young son, who is only 6 years old.
Unfortunately, she was run over by the car whose details the boy provided while fleeing, and she died of the resulting injuries that same night.

On July 11, 2024, Alexa Stakely was found dead in the road with serious injuries after being hit by her own car during a carjacking attempt.
Police arrived quickly and took her to the hospital, but she died from her injuries. Her 6-year-old son was found safe in the car’s backseat. This led to an investigation into the carjacking and the people responsible.
The investigation into Alexa Stakely’s death resulted in the arrest of three people: a couple of youths; two youths, each aged sixteen, and nineteen; and Gerald Dowling, an adult.
The 16-year-old teenager said that the incident that led to the death of Stakely was after he had carjacked the CRV and used it to hit her.
The other teenager participated in the crime, but he did not confess to the murder. Both teenage accused were charged with murder but were tried as adult since the crime was serious.
The adult, Dowling, was charged with responsibility of Stakely’s death, stealing her car, and receiving stolen property.
Originally, he was accused of murder, however, the jury was instead guilty of involuntary manslaughter. All three are still in jail while their cases are being processed.
Three individuals are said to have killed Alexa Stakely, and each suspect faces separate charges. Two young people were arrested for murder and they are 16-year-old boys They are on trial for adult status because the crime was very serious.
One of them snatched a car and knocked down Stakely when she tried to prevent the car jacking. The other was there but inactive or, as in another case, feigning illness.
Gerald Dowling was 19 years old, and he was initially accused of murder, but he has been charged with minor offenses like causing death by dangerous driving, driving a stolen car, and handling stolen goods.
The judge wants the two teenagers to be tried as adults because the crime committed was severe.
The court case is still in progress depending on the verdict as the community mourn the death of Stakely and admires her courage in protecting her son.
The community is heartbroken and furious with Alexa Stakely’s death. People who came to mourn described her as a tough working mother who was a speech therapist that assisted many kids.
Many people have established monuments and collected funds for her son, which prove that they wish him well after such a tragedy.
This has also sparked discussions of ensuring the area is more secure and even combating carjacking.
